Robert S. Weinberg is a professor in the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Studies at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Before coming to Miami University, Weinberg was a professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Texas from 1978-1992 including Regents Professor from 1988-1992, Regents Faculty Lecturer in 1989 and Toulouse Scholar in 1990. His peers also voted him one of the top 10 sport psychology specialists in North America. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate sport/exercise psychology for over 20 years, Weinberg has published 6 books relating to sport/exercise psychology, published more than 135 refereed journal articles, written 20 book chapters, and presented more than 300 scholarly papers at sport/exercise psychology conferences as well as being invited to speak worldwide including Israel, Spain, England, Greece, Germany, France, Portugal, Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Australia. He has served as president of both the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, and the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology, as well as the Sport Psychology Academy of AAHPERD. He is currently the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology, as well as serving on the editorial boards of the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, The Sport Psychologist, International Journal of Sport Psychology, and Psychology of Sport and Exercise. Dr. Weinberg is a certified consultant (AAASP), a member of the United States Olympic Committee Sport Psychology Registry, and a Fellow in the prestigious American Academy for Physical Education and Sport. Robert Weinberg has been a leader in his field and its application to tennis for more than 20 years. He has conducted hundreds of workshops on mental training for tennis around the world. Dr. Weinberg is currently a ranked tournament player and consults with tennis players of all ages and levels. Dr. Weinberg earned his Ph.D. in sport psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1977. He just recently got married and moved to Cincinnati to be with his wife, Cynthia. His children, Josh and Kira, live in Dallas and Santa Cruz, respectively. In his free time, Dr. Weinberg enjoys tennis, basketball, jogging, and traveling. |
